I'm a newbie to both this forum, as well as contests. I've registered for maybe 10 in the last few days, and today received a voice recorded phone call saying I entered a contest to win an automobile and have one a top 4 prize. They left an (877) number, which I didn't have the opportunity to write down. I can't remember there being a mention of a company or specific contest in the message. Should I assume this is a front for fraud or identity theft?

Thanks

Let me give you some tips about entering contests:

1) Get a phone number from K7 (www.k7.net) to enter so you can receive voice mail and not give them your real phone.

2) If you're a finalist fot one of a 'top 4 prizes', you know that after much grief you'll end up not with a car, but with probably a yoyo. Not worth it.

3) If you actually win something big, like a car, you'll know it. A recorded voice telling you won is usually spam.

I got a phone number from K7, but when I call it, I get an error recording that says "you must now dial the 3 digit area code and 7 digit number", which I did. I guess my phone company does not recognize that number???

For contests that have daily giveaways, is it better to enter early in the morning than later at night?

I'm pretty sure it's spam. I googled "Camelot Promotions" and it pulled up page of listings referring to them as email scammers. Google "Camelot Promotions" if you want more info.
Almost all of the contests I and others post are for the U.S. and/or Canada. Hope this helps. smile.gif

If by daily, you mean instant wins, I can't really say for sure. Instant win contests have preset times at which winning is determined.

I would think that the day time or early evening would be better. Though I have won all or almost all of my instant win prizes in the early morning before 7a.m. I work the late shift so it's the only time other than weekends when I can enter.

Contests that you can enter daily and aren't instant win contests pick the winners at random. So it wouldn't make any difference what time you enter them.

Another question.

For instant win games that have separate forms for UPC code users and non code users, do they manipulate the chances as to not reward people who didn't buy their product. I'm not asking if its legally ok, but what actually happens.

That I have not idea. I've won a few times in various instant win contests using as they call the "alternate entry" method, a link to a form you fill in if you don't have a UPC code. Some instant win contest like these allow you more chances to play in win if you have a UPC where as if you don't you usually only get one chance to play and win.

I've never actually won anything really big. I do get pretty lucky on the instant win contests though.

The Blondepenguin

Like I always say you just have to keep entering. You'll be winning before you know it. I know it can seem frustrating but if you don't enter you won't win.

Do you use roboform? Reason I ask is because it really cuts down on the amount of time you have to type your information into contest entry forms. After I downloaded a copy I had a lot more time to enter more contests than I had previously. Best part is it saves wear and tear on my fingers. wink.gif yes.gif

Here is the link to the download page.
http://www.roboform.com/download.html

If you use firefox or netscape as your browser you will need to download the Firefox/Mozilla Adapter.
Its on the same page as the download for roboform. Just scroll down.

In the future if you have any other questions please post them in this thread. Thanks. biggrin.gif

No problem. If you aren't sure if it's an instant win or a sweepstakes just click on the official rules link on the contest page. This one is a sweepstakes so it goes in the Contests Forum.
So just start a new topic and use the format I posted Guidelines for posting contests thread
All it comes down to is copying @ pasting from the contests official rules. Pretty easy and saves on having to type it all out. smile.gif

They have been moving the DealTaker contests like this one to the General Deal Discussion & Expired Deals Forum
http://www.dealtaker.com/General-Deal-Disc...-Deals-f35.html

I don't believe a winner has been announced as of yet. Good luck to all that entered!! biggrin.gif

I haven't won anything YET, but I do the same thing you do-enter everything, every day, and I'm hoping to win something... It does seem that by NOW one of us would've won something! It is frustrating, but at least the forms are easy with auto-fill! yes.gif

Hi Crystal,
I'm not that familiar with twitter contests. I don't see why not as long as you don't personally benefit. By that I mean referrals or you are compensated in some way.
Just post the details of the twitter contest either in the one time only forum or the multiple entry forum depending on the number of times you can enter. wavey.gif

Thanks for the feedback but I don't think adding a new subforum for twitter contests is necessary at this point in time. Like I mentioned in my previous reply if it's one time only entry, post in that subforum and if you can enter more than once, post it in the multiple entry subforum. Thanks. yes.gif
