Boys Vs. Girls

Posted by BananaFrog on September 15, 2009

A familiar phrase and book, ‘Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus,’ has been around for many, many years.  It is popular for a reason.  The differences between a man and woman are incredible and can be too much to grasp.  It would make sense to me to assume that since men are from Mars, they started out as boys there; and to correspond with that, women grew up on Venus.  If this is true, I am curious about what the future holds for my daughter over the next few years.

This phrase is interesting to me because I am a mother of two beautiful boys, ages 5 & 6, and a brand new baby girl.  I will start this by saying my boys are AWESOME, but are very rambunctious and will push until there is no more room to push.  If there is something they are unsure what the rule is, they try it without asking, and then apologize if they get into trouble.  They both love destroying things for fun.  They sometimes take things apart to see how they work, or cut a hole in my wall with a steak knife to see what is behind it.  They run ALL of the time, jump around like kangaroos, climb trees or anything that has a footing…  I am sure you get the point.

I know my baby girl will be just as great, but will she be more docile and, instead of breaking her toys, will she love them as if they were real?  Will she be more cautious about what she does?  Will she be daintier and look at her brother’s like they are insane when they climb up the wall for fun?  Will she learn that eating with a fork is cleaner then using hands before she is 6?  My curiosity continues in this.  How different will parenting her really be?

My experience is the same so far with all three of my babies.  She is just like her brothers; a happy, snugly, smiley, cooing baby that only cries when she is hungry or tired.  This is definitely going to be fun to watch over the years as all three of them take their individual ‘first steps’ of life.

In my experience working with kids for 20 years (not the same as parenting I know…) I know that with girls it can go either way. I have seen a girl grow up with brothers and be dainty and as girly girl as they get…but I’ve also seen girls want to climb the trees and make mud pies with their brothers.

How ever it turns out, rest assured that your daughter will have two brothers who’ll look out for her and be very protective. My brother and I are in our 30’s and he’s still very protective..LOL
