Wow, I can’t believe it has been 5 years!! All the birthday excitement this past week has gotten me reflecting on the time that has passed. I originally joined DealTaker on the hunt for a free Spiegel Catalog. I was not about to pay $10 for that thing. LOL…. I was welcomed by a former member, and several members/friends that are still active on the board to this day.
I spent most of my time in off topic just chatting and playing games with members. Oh, and I can’t forget the free stuff. I couldn’t believe things were actually being sent to my doorstep for free. As time moved on, I started looking at the deals and coupons. I began volunteering my time “mostly” in the coupon section. I would add 100+ a day. At the time I was working for a local high school, and was asked to come aboard part-time in deals and coupons. Long story short, I left the school, and became a full time employee for Dealtaker.
Seeing the growth over the past 5 years has been remarkable. My experiences and friends I have made during this time holds a very special place in my heart. I am looking forward to more fantastic wonderful years to come. I’m excited to see what a three man/woman company has evolved into and will the growth that is in the future for all the new employees and members.

As you all know, DealTaker turned 5 and we celebrated together last week. It was tons of fun to have all of the festivities and contests going! Watching everyone through out the site take part during the week was great. I learned that we have some very competitive and creative users out there! I have to say, my favorite contest was the ‘Get to know the moderator.” While that was quite the chore to keep up with at times, it was so fun to see those that were participating and what they asked. I have to say, there were some very interesting questions!
Another great part was the time consuming mailings that we put together for our contest winners. I have been at DT for a while and have mailed out the contest winners since I started, but I have not had near the amount we had last week. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS! And THANK YOU for all the extra work!!! LOL! Really, we enjoyed every ounce of getting those prizes out! There is nothing like winning awesome prizes!

I do have to say the best part for me was cake! I enjoy my sweets, and the cake was very scrumptious!!! Thank you DealTaker for turning 5! Yummy!!!!

Wow, has it really been 5 years already? I am not necessarily a nostalgic kind of guy, but I am proud of what DealTaker has become, and proud to have been a part of its incredible growth. I signed up for my DealTaker account on 04/09/2004, I am member number 326, and now there are over 185,000 members. That is crazy!
DealTaker was started as a hobby for people who genuinely like finding awesome deals and want to share what they find with others. It was not started to just try and make a quick buck, and I think that is what really contributed to the success. In one word, you have to truly be ‘passionate’ about something to make it work, and we have some very passionate people that have helped DealTaker become what it is today.
So, to everyone who contributes to DealTaker, thanks for sharing your passion; and to everyone who visits DealTaker, I hope you are truly enjoying and benefiting from our passion.
I can’t wait to see how DealTaker grows in the next 5 years, and hope we have tons more passionate people to join us on this wonderful journey!
