Casino Bound & Friends

“Best friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. False friends are like leaves, found everywhere.”

On a whim this weekend some friends decided to make a run to the casino. I was going to pass up the opportunity thinking of all the things that I could possibly get done on my day off. I had laundry to do, bills to pay, groceries to buy, etc…. not to mention did I actually have the extra cash to go play with.

Oh what the heck, I’m in!! We jump in the truck, and we hit the road. Tunes are blaring, we are laughing, joking, reminiscing. It wasn’t until later in the weekend that I realized the drive there and home was more fun and refreshing than the actual act of going to play. I ended up losing about $60, but it wasn’t at all about the money. It was about friendship.

I have learned a lot about friends over the years. (Almost 40 to be exact) A friend is someone I trust to be with me when I am at my weakest and most vulnerable. If I trust you with my life and vice-versa, we are friends. It’s not about being friendly or trustworthy. It’s about the actual act of trust. Sometimes you “need” a friend, and sometimes it’s the other way around. Friendship, a trust that is returned. I’ve been blessed with many in my life. This small road trip was a great reminder of how fortunate I am.
