I woke up yesterday morning remembering our family’s normal Sunday routine from my younger days, half wishing I could turn back time and do it all over again.
A typical Sunday morning consisted of my mom waking my brother and me up. This was the only day my dad got to sleep in, which wasn’t late but always a nice treat. We would start breakfast, and YES every Sunday we had pancakes and bacon.
I don’t think I can remember a day that we didn’t have that. Even if we were running late. While getting breakfast together we were also getting ready for church. We would have our family breakfast while watching Tom Slick & Super Chicken….lol. Then we would head out the door for church. Sundays were our relaxing family days. Lunch was usually a can of soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Special occasions we would drive to a nearby town and eat at a buffet in our local mall. On the way home we would stop at either Thrifty’s or Wendy’s for an ice-cream. Our afternoons were totally lazy after this point. Do you remember Family Film Festival with Tom Hatten? We all grabbed our pillows and blankies and knew there was always a good classic movie we would all soon be napping too. I remember watching old black and white Bob Hope shows, and laughing to Jerry Lewis. Later in the evening it was off to church again.
At times I thought what a boring day, and total waste of time. Let’s vary things up!! Now that I’m older I would give anything to have these days back. I’m glad I have the memories and will cherish them forever.
