Where the Wild Things Are

dbiles | April 13, 2009 | 2 Comments

When I was a kid, no book captured my imagination more than Maurice Sendak’s “Where The Wild Things Are.”

The story of Max, banished to his room for making mischeif only to find a wild world growing there seems like a pretty common premise, but it is a truly inventive story and, for a 7 or 8 year old boy, it was mindblowing.

Imagine my joy when, over the past week, I saw the trailer for the soon to be movie version. Not only was it one of my favorite books, not only is it being done by one of my favorite directors (Spike Jonze of ‘Being John Malkovich’ and ‘Adaptation’ fame), but the trailer features my favorite song off my favorite album by one of my favorite bands, Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up”.

It’s like they made the trailer just for me.

honestly, to me, this trailer doesn't seem to capture ANY of the spirit of the book...tho the characters look good. but, really, I think I liked the story just fine before WITHOUT the indie rock soundtrack.
