Black Friday and Cyber Monday are technically over, but there are some stores that are extending their sales, deals and coupons for a few more days.  Some have extended them for the entire week.  It’s your chance to save money on your holiday shopping and take advantage of the sales if you weren’t able to make it the first time around.  I’m a huge fan of tackling the holiday shopping at home in my favorite pajamas and slippers and that’s exactly what I’m going to do!

Yes, I’ll still go out, but with plenty of deals on Cyber Monday, and with so many of the best deals aggregated here daily on DealTaker, I can find the best deals online, without the fuss of waking up early or enduring lines.  And I’ve read a couple of articles that consumer spending is expected to go up year-over-year, so those lines might be even longer.

FedEx is expecting higher-than-previous-year shipments on their busiest day this year.  That could mean one of two things: more people are doing their shopping online (as opposed to in the store), or the economy is rebounding.

For me, the rewards for shopping online at my favorite retailers is too great: saves time and,in the long run, money, too.

Looking through our Black Friday ads that we have out I’ve noticed there are MANY things already available.  Adding to these are sales going on now at many other retailers.  So don’t get up at the butt crack of dawn or camp out Thanksgiving Day.  Look now and get what you want online in the comforts of your home.

I have started a thread with Pre-Black Friday sales.  Some have come and gone, but more are sure to come.

But then there are those deals for HDTVs that lower the dollars-to-inch ratio, the possibility of name-brand budget netbooks dropping to mere double-digits. And well-equipped laptops not too far from that price.

Sure, maybe most of the door-busting deals are electronics, and maybe that’s your husband or son’s thing. Our family TV night is Thursday, but I don’t need 50+ inches to watch a sitcom––that sort of size that comes in handy on Sunday when I’m avoiding the TV room.

It is a relief for my budget when I can get that big-ticket item with plenty of savings. It works for me and the store, because it saves me money and I usually check a couple of other items off my list at the same place. Now, there aren’t too many Black Friday ads yet (when they are out, they’ll be here), but I wonder, what’s that big-ticket item that will get you buying, that you hope to get major savings from?

When I realize where they are and why they’re sending me Thanksgiving greetings, it gives me a reality check: when you’re in charge of the holidays running smoothly, it’s important to pace oneself – when I get those messages, I know it’s time to start preparing for Thanksgiving south of the border.  Of course, one key part of Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday shopping rush – Black Friday.  If the American Thanksgiving starts the shopping season, for me the Canadian Thanksgiving starts my preparations for Thanksgiving weekend, Black Friday included.

Black Friday can be a fun and productive day if you know what you’re looking for and where to find it for the lowest price.  According to Wikipedia, the term dates back to 1966, primarily used on the East coast, and it has since spread across the country only as recently as 2000.  Today well over 100 million Americans participate in the annual shopping spree – it’s quickly becoming an American tradition, and you’ll need a plan of attack.
